Your final project

For the students who take the course Digital Media and Sounds:

Your final project has to be completed by next Thursday (2012/1/5). The final project is consisted of two parts:

1. An artwork that has audio playing a vital role. You have to present this artwork in the class (2012/1/5).

2. A 1,000-word statement that reflects essential notions/concepts/theories/issues/literature reviews about your artwork. It has to be written in English and the word count can exceed 1,000. If you mention any reference (i.e. news clip/essay/book/website or artist's artwork) in your statement, please create a bibliography page at the end of your statement. You have to submit this statement (2 hard copies) to me on 2012/1/5.

If you have any question about your final project, feel free to drop me a message.

Enjoy it and Good Luck!
I look forward to being amazed by your master pieces!

Sounding

I would like to have this sign if possible...

San-Diao-Ling Karaok

2011/10/30 The Community Hall at San-Diao-Ling (三貂嶺), 3pm

Walking along the railway, we went pass this very remote community hall. Local residents came here to have their karaok together to enjoy their Sunday afternoon.
Their voices were filled in the air, in the valley, among the mountains.
"Sweetheart~~ Sweetheart~~ Goodbye~~ Goodbye~~ ....."

The railway traffic signal

2011/10/30 The railway traffic signal was ringing when a train was approaching, at 2pm, outside the Shi-Fen Big Waterfall(十分瀑布).

Once the train had gone, tensions from people and things were released and noises returned.

The boy's pride

The boy inserted a plastic cup between the bike frame and the front wheel. When he was riding the bike, the rubbing sound was amplified through the plastic cup and an unusual sound was generated. The boy was very proud of his invention and showing off at a small plaza of a local temple (清水祖師爺廟) in Tamsui, Taiwan.

Vibrating stomach

I was having my meal at a dumpling stall by the street. A motorcycle rider came to buy some to take away. However, he did not switch off his engine. During his 5 minutes of waiting time, I could not enjoy my meal at all because of the vibration of his engine sound. Believe it or not, it made my stomach vibrating!

Ms Shui-Shan (雪山小姐)

I was driving through the very long tunnel Shui-Shan for going to Yi-Lang yesterday. It took me 15 min to pass through the entire tunnel.
The radio was playing in my car. Suddenly, Ms Shui-Shan interrupted the radio broadcasting and she started to speak-- The traffic is heavy at the moment. Please drive carefully and safely.....
Starting with a few beeps to indicate that she was going to speak, she then spoke slowly and clearly, with a bit of unavoidable reverbation, to all the people in the tunnel.
My friends in the car thought that if she spoke even more slowly, people in the tunnel would feel quite creepy about the environment!
Since then, when we were passing through a tunnel, we thought about Ms Shui-Shan and we laughed about this experience.

Cicada at autumn

100/9/22, 9:30am @ TNUA R306
I am suprised to hear the sound of cicada under this kind of cool weather.

The temperature has been dropping down in the last few days and I've put jacket on to get ready for the autumn.
The sound of cicada is an indicator of summer to me. By hearing it now, I am a bit confused by the season.
